Offline in Japan

Surprise! Did you miss me?

It has been some time. Let me explain, two weeks ago I set out on an amazing trip to Oita, blog entries to follow!

But I got back to one of the worst surprises! My hotspot was deceased, it gave up the ghost and I was officially offline and in a bad place as it was.

Now in Tokyo, this would be no problem! Head to one of the many internet cafes! but here in the sticks, it is a little bit harder. I run a YouTube channel with a specific setup to get the Virtual Model to work. There are some internet places here but none similar to those in bigger cities. So I had to accept, that I was offline.

I could use my phone for some things, but the £75 phone bill on one of my providers and I am still awaiting the second provider’s bill… would sadly say the cost of being offline and relying on just a phone.

It was tough, I felt very quickly that I had fallen into the crack, and I was out of touch with the remaining anime season, which I am just chalking up as a miss.

I have also missed the start of the new season. But will catch up! at super lighting speed!

I found myself staying out later, trying to avoid the quiet of my apartment. I went to bed earlier as I simply had nothing to do.

It wasn’t fun, but I did get to explore a bit and also get closer to some of my Saga 7-Eleven friends. I have been here long enough for certain staff members to start recognizing me. Which is honestly charming. As someone feeling very isolated, having people making jokes or asking how I was doing, was honestly the highlight of the day at times.

It was not a fun two weeks and I do feel it was aiding to the desire to just fly back to somewhere familiar. But we are back online! And I will be posting daily to catch up on the content missed. Starting with Oita tomorrow!
