High in the sky

Temperature - -6

Today's blog entry is shorter, but I hope it still meets you…the reader’s “high” standards! One could say its content "towers" in importance. Japan is home to many towers, so much so that even first-time visitors recognize at least a couple of them, particularly the two most famous ones in Tokyo. However, nearly every prefecture has its own tower, and Hokkaido is no exception.

Towering over Odori Park in Sapporo is the Sapporo TV Tower, which was completed in 1957. Standing at 147.2 meters tall, it provides visitors with stunning views of Odori Park and the cityscape of Sapporo. The Sapporo TV Tower was designed by the same mastermind who planned the Tokyo Tower, making it an interesting attraction for tower enthusiasts. Since its completion many taller buildings have been built making it less prominent on the skyline, but it is still worth a visit.

The iconic clock was installed in 1961 as a donation, with the belief that the digital clock would enhance the tower's popularity. The basement of the tower was designed to connect to the underground walkways mentioned in a previous blog post. Inside the tower, there is a restaurant and a viewing platform. However, keep in mind that it can get very busy during holidays and events.

I visited at night, and the nightscape was worth it. This attraction is easy to explore and can be enjoyed in just a few hours, making it a great way to take a break from the cold if you visit during the winter season.
